I once believed I could “help” save the world. I thought humanity needed changing. I preached to anyone that would listen that the world was sick and needed to be healed of its disease. I had all the so-called evidence to back me up and prove that we all (each individual) had an obligation to “MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE”.
The Bullshit:
We’ve probably all believed it at times and we might still hope for it to be true, but we keep dreaming that as long as we get rid of that person from of our life, or we send those people “back to their country” or teach the world to meditate we will someday bring humanity to a more enlightened or conscious place or at minimum make our lives more peaceful. That stuff sells and it sells mostly to people like myself who were struggling with life, who felt lost in a world of confusion, the people who feel like there is “something else” out there.
I blamed others, I even blamed myself for living “unconsciously”. I was looking for that something else in life and I thought it meant to fix the “bad” stuff in others and myself. I believed that if we all become more “spiritual” we could make a difference in this lifetime and that would also benefit future generations for the next millennium. I got sucked into believing that sitting crossed legged and closing your eyes for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon along with being more “positive” was the way we were going to combat the darkness.
“The world has gone mad” was one of my mantras.
Here’s what I think now:
The world doesn’t need any fixing or changing. We don’t have to eliminate anything or anyone. Humanity is not in a bad place. There is not more to be alarmed about “these days”. We are not heading for extinction or a dark place. The people who sell the fairy tale of a “better world” or a “more peaceful” existence have tapped into a very lucrative market that is gaining more and more followers every day (I’m all for entrepreneurship and making money, so if you’re in the “make the world a better place” business and you’re making money then good on you- make millions if you can).
What needed to change:?
All I REALLY needed to CHANGE was my mind. This journey that we are all sharing is EXACTLY where it’s meant to be and there is NOTHING that is not meant to be here. How can our creator, the all intelligent, the infinite source be wrong with it’s creation?
My wanting to change the world lead me to the path of self-discovery and changing ME. I changed my mind and started to see things in a new way. I’ve started to see things from the eyes of the creator rather than from my conscious mind that labels things good or bad. The better world is already here. The love that many seek has never left. The perfection can’t be perfected any more. Everything that is here is meant to be here- no exceptions.
Conclusion:
Change your mind and you change your world.
